illustrates important symbolism

"I looked upon the scene before me-upon the mere house, and the simple landscape features of the domain-upon the bleak walls-upon the scene before me-upon the mere house, and the simple landscape features of the domain-upon a few rank edges-and upon a few white trunks of decaying trees with an utter depression of soul which i can compare to no earthly sensation"

This quote was very symbolic in the story "The Fall of The House of Usher" The object that was described was the house that Usher lived in. The house in the story greatly reflected on how the Usher family is at its current state, rotten and dying.  Throughout the duration of this story its setting was this house, the house effected the atmosphere throughout the story with it's rotten gloomy feel.
