The blog design was chosen like this because most of Poe's writings are dark and mysterious I had a black background to reflect what most of the quotes was about. The common theme about all of the quotes and the analysis was they all have some type of dark element towards them. All the pictures are usually pictures of the most important parts of the quote or story and fits in the mood of the stories and the quotes chosen. I believe my posts is consistent throughout the entire blog

Develops genre

"But this blow was arrested by the hand of my wife. Goaded by the interference into a rage more demoniacal, I withdrew my arm from her grasp and buried the axe in her brain."
This quote used by Poe allows us to experience the thought of a serial killer and allows us to see how one feels when doing unrighteous actions. When the narrator described this scene it shows how this story of his fits perfectly in to the genre of Gothic horror. By using very vivid words they capture the Gothic quality of death and darkness. Also with the narrator acting upon unrighteous actions this also can be an quality of a Gothic horror with the theme of people not making morally right decisions

illustrates important symbolism

"I looked upon the scene before me-upon the mere house, and the simple landscape features of the domain-upon the bleak walls-upon the scene before me-upon the mere house, and the simple landscape features of the domain-upon a few rank edges-and upon a few white trunks of decaying trees with an utter depression of soul which i can compare to no earthly sensation"

This quote was very symbolic in the story "The Fall of The House of Usher" The object that was described was the house that Usher lived in. The house in the story greatly reflected on how the Usher family is at its current state, rotten and dying.  Throughout the duration of this story its setting was this house, the house effected the atmosphere throughout the story with it's rotten gloomy feel.

Produces humor

""In painting and gemmary Fortunato, like his country men, was a quack-but in the matter of old wines he was sincere."
The significant of this quote was the importance of wine in throughout the story. It shows irony in the story, because the wine was seen as a friendly gesture to the antagonist of the story. The true intent not a friendly offering but as a offering to his doom. This plot twist shows irony within it because the antagonist fell for the protagonist's tricks, the irony is also shown where the antagonist thought of the protagonist as his friend in which was showing him a gesture of friendship.

Establishes mood/ atmosphere

"We came at length to the food of the descent, and stood together on the damp ground of the catacombs of the Montresors."
This quote contributed to the mood and atmosphere of the story by showing it's gloomy and dark mood to the story, creating a very tense atmosphere in the story. The character influenced by the thought of revenge has taken his victim down to this catacombs where he preformed the act of murder. Poe's use of this quote allows the readers to feel the darkness in the character's intentions which was to kill his friend. The image of death and decay shows the Gothic work in this writing and is also often used in many of his other works.
